Blissful Mornings - Volume One –Closing Story : The Portrait of Remembering
The morning mist hung like a veil over the path to the Swaddle Cottage.
Mira walked slowly, holding a satchel of brushes, oils, and a folded cloth she had stitched herself.
She had not returned to the village since the season of the net.
But something stirred within her—like a
bell rung in the chest—whispering it was time.
The children had grown taller. The elders, softer in their steps. But the cottage still held the
hush of reverence—every corner brimming with memory, with handwoven care.
A hush fell when Mira entered, but not out of surprise. It was as if they’d been waiting.
She knelt before the hearth where portraits of past matriarchs were framed in dried blooms
and golden thread. She turned to them and said, “If you’ll allow me, I’d like to paint you. Not
as a record, but as a remembrance.”
No one spoke, but hearts answered.
Over the following days, Mira painted by candlelight and laughter. The elders sat with
woven swaddles on their laps, the children leaning against them like saplings beside an old
tree. She asked no one to pose—only to be as they were. She caught glances of comfort,
hands brushing hair from brows, soft sighs as lullabies were remembered and hummed
again.
When the final brushstroke was placed, Mira turned the canvas around.
In it, there was no distance between generations. Only a circle—interwoven, eternal.
A sacred dwelling of kin, joy, and care. At the center of the painting, behind them all, the walls
of the Swaddle Cottage shimmered with an otherworldly light, as if spirit itself had been
watching, too.
Mira smiled, not for praise, but for peace. “This is not the end,” she whispered. “This is the
frame that holds everything we’ve become.”
And so, *Blissful Mornings: Volume One* found its closing not in farewell, but in a
painting—etched not just on canvas, but in every heart that had passed through that sacred
space. We will meet your hearts once more as we continue our journey in the second volume.
